ADDL welcomed Dr. Steve Hooser as its new director on August 1, 2008.

Dr. Hooser received his B.S. degree from the Department of Zoology at Eastern Illinois University, his D.V.M. from the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois in 1982 and his PhD from the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, University of Illinois, in 1989.  Post-doc work was completed at the Department of Pharmacology/ Toxicology, University of Arizona from 1989-1993 and TNO Food and Nutrition Research, Zeist, The Netherlands, 1993-1994.

He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 1989.

Dr. Hooser has been Head of the Toxicology Section of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory since 1994 and had been Assistant Director of the ADDL since 2000.  His research interests include diagnostic and hepatic toxicology.

He has served on many national and university committees, including the Purdue Grain Quality Task Force, the Purdue University Chemical Management Committee, the Purdue SVM Admissions Committee, Faculty Committee, Executive Committee and Research Advisory Board and is currently Chair of the Toxicology Working Group of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network.

He is currently affiliated with the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, Society of Toxicology, Society of Toxicology Comparative and Veterinary Specialty Section, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology. He has served as President of the Comparative Veterinary Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology and Vice President of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicologists.  Among his awards are the Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award, Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine, National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health. 

He, wife Laura, and their children Blair and Conrad, enjoy their horses, outdoor activities and movies.

   
wakenell 4-08.jpg We are also pleased to introduce Dr. Pat Wakenell as our newest faculty member.  Dr. Wakenell will serve as avian diagnostician.  She received her DVM and PhD from Michigan State University and has been an associate professor of Poultry Medicine in the Department of Population Health and Reproduction, School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis since 1997.   A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (1988), Dr. Wakenell is past president of the American Association of Avian Pathologists and has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Avian Diseases.
   
Christy W.jpg Dr. Christina Wilson, Clinical Assistant Professor of Toxicology, has been named Head of the Toxicology Section at ADDL.  Dr. Wilson has served as Head Analytical Chemist/Toxicology Section Supervisor in at the ADDL since February, 2007.  She received both her Master's degree and PhD in Analytical Toxicology from the Department of Comparative Pathobiology at Purdue.  Dr. Wilson is a member of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, the Society of Toxicology, the Comparative and Veterinary Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology and the American Society of Mass Spectrometry and has served on several University Committees
