Quarterly Bacteriology Organism Occurrence
Report
Greetings from the bacteriology and mycology
lab at ADDL. Due to personnel changes in our lab, we are
going through a transitional time for training new employees
and cross training of existing ones. This makes us extra
busy; however, we are all excited about the potential improvements
that will follow. We are evaluating different media for
faster isolation of the slow growing Listeriamonocytogenes.
In addition, we are working on molecular diagnostic procedures
for organisms that either grow slowly or are present in
very low numbers. These types of organisms usually require
a very long incubation time thus delaying the final report.
Hopefully, we can finish our evaluation soon. The new tests
will be implemented once we prove their reproducibility
and accuracy. Our goal remains the same - that is to provide
accurate and quick microbiological service for all of you.
The following are updates of organisms isolated
from major animal groups from January to March 1996. I hope
you will find this information helpful. Any suggestions
to make these reports more useful are welcomed. Sometimes
we cannot meet all needs due to limitations of our system;
however, my goal is to provide meaningful information for
better diagnosis and prevention. We will do our best to
take care of your request.
