Information Regarding Pet Food Recall

2. If you have a suspected case, you or the client can call the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to report it.  Indiana reports to the FDA District office in Detroit ~ 313/393-8100.

3. If you have pet food or other questions, you can contact the Indiana Chemists Office ~ 765/494-1492 or Bob Geiger directly at 765/494-1551.

4. Veterinarians and pet owners can contact the Menu Food's enhanced call center at 866/895-2708 to report cases of food-related renal failure in animals, or for more information on the recall.

5. Hill's Pet Nutrition is voluntarily recalling Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food from the market.  Hill's is taking this precautionary action because during a two-month period in early 2007, wheat gluten for this product was provided by a company that also supplied wheat gluten to Menu Foods.  U.S. Food and Drug Administration tests of wheat gluten samples from this period show the presence of a small amount of melamine. This is the only product Hill's currently sells in the United States and Canada that contains wheat gluten from any supplier.  No other Hill's Prescription Diet or Science Diet products are affected by this voluntary recall. Hill's Science Diet Savory Feline canned cat foods, manufactured by Menu Foods, were previously withdrawn from the market as a precaution.
