Position Opeing for:

Diagnostic Veterinary Pathologist

The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) in the School of Veterinary Medicine of Purdue University are seeking to employ a veterinary pathologist in either a tenure track or clinical track appointment.  Appointment as either clinical or tenure track faculty will depend on the aptitude and preference of the successful applicant.  If tenure track appointment is preferred, it will require attaining tenured status according to Purdue University guidelines.  If clinical track appointment is preferred, biennial reappointment will occur with satisfactory performance of assigned teaching and service responsibilities.  The position is a 12 month appointment with rank and salary commensurate with successful applicant’s education and experience.  The successful candidate should be eligible for certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, a diplomate of the ACVP or equivalent certification by examination body and have excellent documented skills in written and oral communication.  Experience and/or demonstrated interest in veterinary diagnostics and production animal agriculture is essential.  The responsibilities of the position include: performing and supervising gross and microscopic examinations and interpretations on a variety of mammalian species; coordination of ancillary diagnostic testing; communication of results to referring veterinarians and animal owners; and teaching diagnostic pathology to graduate students/residents and veterinary students.  Opportunities for collaborative research are readily available in the CPB and across the Purdue West Lafayette campus in areas of infectious diseases, vaccine development, cancer research, biomedical engineering, neuroscience and comparative medicine.  The successful candidate will join a team of 12 veterinary anatomic pathologists, including 7 diagnostic pathologists based in ADDL and 4 veterinary clinical pathologists based in the school and will participate in one of the most successful pathology graduate training programs in the U. S. The main ADDL building is a modern facility, a new adjacent BSL-3/BSL-3 Ag building is in planning stages.
